QuickBooks and rental property books

Updated 2026-09-11 · Not tax advice

QuickBooks can keep rental books if you set up a class or location per property. Most DIY landlords do not. The year ends as one pile, and the CPA rebuilds Schedule E by hand.

What RentLedger exports

A QuickBooks 3-column CSV, or a bank CSV, from the books you typed. Use it if your CPA already lives in QuickBooks. We do not sync live to QuickBooks Online. We do not do payroll, inventory, or double-entry for a firm.

When to stay in QuickBooks

You already have an accountant running classes per property, or you need payroll. Then keep QuickBooks. Use RentLedger if you want books by property and a Schedule E worksheet without configuring QB.
